Installation

Can You Install Stone Veneer Over Brick?

Usually yes, when the brick is structurally sound, clean and prepared according to the veneer manufacturer's instructions — commonly a scratch coat over metal lath, or an approved bonding preparation.

Painted, spalling, damp or unstable brick is not an acceptable substrate until it is repaired or the coating is removed. Loose mortar joints should be repointed first. The added thickness affects flashing, sills and trim, so plan those details before starting. Always follow the written installation instructions for the specific veneer and mortar you are using, and check local code requirements.
