Thin Stone Veneer vs Full Bed Stone
Thin stone veneer is sawn to roughly 1 in. thick and is adhered to a prepared wall, so it usually does not need a supporting footing or ledge. Full bed stone is typically 3 to 5 in. thick and needs a footing or shelf to carry its weight.
Thin veneer weighs far less per square foot, which is why it can be used on framed walls and on existing structures where adding a footing is impractical. It also takes up less thickness, so trim, windows and rooflines are less affected.
Full bed stone has deeper shadow lines and a heavier appearance, and is the traditional choice where structure allows it or where an existing full-bed wall is being matched.
